How much does a truck driving course cost?
The price for a forklift driver's course varies depending on the type of forklift driver's license you want to take. There are five different truck driving licences: T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5. The T1 certificate is the simplest and only requires theory teaching, while the T2-T5 certificate requires both theory and practical training. The price for a forklift driver course starts at around NOK 2,000 for the T1 certificate and can go up to around NOK 6,000-10,000 for the T5 certificate. The price includes theory teaching, practical training and examination. The price can also vary depending on the type of truck you will learn to drive, such as a support leg truck, a push mast truck, a side stacking truck. It may also be that the course requires additional safety training, depending on the lifting capacity of the forklift.
What are the advantages of taking a forklift driver course?
Forklift driving courses are an important tool to ensure you have the necessary skills and knowledge to drive a forklift safely and efficiently. The course also gives you knowledge of how to handle different types of trucks, for example outrigger trucks, push mast trucks, side stacking trucks or cranes. It also gives you knowledge of safety procedures and how to handle various situations that may arise when driving a forklift. This can help you avoid accidents and injuries to yourself or others. Truck driver courses also give you the opportunity to get a truck driver's licence, which can open up new job opportunities.

Forklift driver's license: increased productivity, increased safety and become a good truck driver
A truck is usually a small, easy-to-maneuver motor vehicle with four rubber wheels, which is used for internal transport in factories, ports, warehouses, etc. There are many different types of trucks, but two well-known examples are the forklift and the pallet truck. These are very widespread tools around many Norwegian workplaces. And there are many people who handle a truck without having the right skills for this.
In Norway, it is now required that everyone who operates a truck must have completed an approved truck driving course. Those who cannot document completed forklift driving courses with a forklift driver's license are, in principle, not allowed to operate a forklift.
According to the Working Environment Act, a forklift driver must complete a forklift driver's course with a practical and a theoretical part. Good training in truck use is important for efficient, economical and safe handling of the truck. A trained forklift driver reduces the risk of injuries and accidents, both to people, buildings and goods. In addition, the statistics show that employees with a forklift driver's license work more productively than those without proper training.
To complete a forklift driver course, you must meet a number of requirements.
The forklift driver course consists of the following four modules:
1.1: Working environment, responsibilities and consequences
2.2: Lifting and stacking trolleys for goods
3.2: Basic practical training
4.2: In-depth practical driving training
In the theoretical part of the course, you learn, among other things, about the requirements for truck drivers and about the laws and regulations that must be followed. You will learn about the different types of trucks and their different areas of use. The course also contains information on construction and operation, definitions and expressions. You learn about accidents, usage and safety regulations, handling of goods and stability of the truck. In addition, you will learn about control and reporting. When you have completed the theory part, you must pass a final written theory test. The theoretical tests for both modules, 1.1 and 2.2, last one hour each.
The practical part of the course is divided between the two modules 3.2 and 4.2. The basic practical training (module 3.2) takes six hours. Module 4.2 consists of 20 hours of training in the practical use of a forklift. You will receive training in driving techniques and goods handling. You get to know different trucks, learn more about the different areas of use, as well as use control. This part of the course also ends with a practical test where you show that you have mastered the trucks in question.
A worthwhile investment
A forklift driver's license is a professional license, and you have this for the rest of your life. It is important to note that the different trucks belong to different classes, and you must be certified in the correct class to drive the respective trucks. If you have a truck driver's license in one specific class, it does not necessarily mean that you are allowed to drive all types of trucks. In order to get the right forklift driver's licence, you must familiarize yourself with the different truck classes and know which type of trucks you need to drive.
We can roughly divide the trucks into three main classes. We have the non-lifting and non-stacking trucks (class 1), and then we have the stacking high-lifting trucks with a lifting capacity of up to 10 tonnes with a permanent driver's seat on the truck (classes 2 to 5). Then we have large trucks with a lifting capacity of over 10 tonnes (class 6-8). In addition to this, we have a small category with other types of trucks that require training.
Here is an overview of the different truck classes:
T1: Low-lift pallet truck and pallet truck with permanent platform, up to 10 tonnes.
T2: Push mast and outrigger truck.
T3: Side-stacking trucks (narrow aisle), high-lift pick trucks and driverless trucks.
T4: Counterweight tractor with mast or telescopic boom.
T5: Side loaders (under 10 tonnes).
T6: Side loaders (over 10 tonnes).
T7: Portal truck.
T8: Counterweight tractor with mast and fork arms.
T20: Other types of trucks that require training.
For the truck driver's license in classes T1-T5, you do not need any prior knowledge. However, you must be over 18 years of age to be issued the course certificate and have a driver's license in at least class B. If you are going to take a driving test for trucks with a lifting capacity of over 10 tonnes, you must have held a truck driver's license for class T4 for 1 year and have practiced driving on T4 truck.
The different courses have different durations and varying prices. The prices also vary somewhat between the different providers. Some of the courses can be completed in one working day, other courses can take four to five days. The content of what is advertised as a forklift driver course also varies. Some offer the individual modules separately, others offer a complete package with all course parts. It is important that you read carefully what is included in the course before you order. Please also note that the forklift driver courses are not subject to VAT.
If you choose to take the modules individually, you must also count on the fee of around NOK 500 to have your certificate of competence issued from the register. If you choose a complete package, this is included in the price. For the vast majority of people who are going to take their truck driver's licence, it will be worthwhile to choose a complete package. If we compare the prices for the different individual modules and the price for a complete package, we see that it will be cheaper to choose a complete package. However, if you only need a forklift driver's license for, for example, T1, it pays to take a specific course for this class only.
A complete package with a review of the theoretical parts and the practical driving training, as well as theoretical and practical tests and the issuing of a certificate of competence, costs from NOK 5,700 to NOK 8,600. If you would rather take the different modules or module groups individually, this is also possible.
Here is an overview of some of the most common sub-courses and their prices:
